How does one enter Islaam?

All praises be to Allaah, Lord and Sustainer of the worlds, and may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and upon his family and companions.

Becoming Muslim is very easy. No special ceremony or place is required. All it requires is a sincere acceptance of the Oneness of God Almighty and the Prophethood of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) through the verbal utterance.

One should say:

"I bear witness that there is no (true) god except Allaah, I bear witness that Muhammad is Allaah's Messenger" A Christian should also say:  "I bear witness that Jesus is the slave and Messenger of Allaah."

It is preferable that one does this in front of a trustworthy knowledgeable person who can give advice on this occasion, though this is not a necessary condition.

Once one has entered Islaam he is required to perform Ghusl (a bath for purification) and then start praying the five daily Prayers. He is also required to know how to perform Wudoo, which is a prerequisite for the prayer. It is not necessary for a person to learn about these things fully before entering Islaam, as entering and accepting the truth should not be delayed, just because of not knowing the procedure of certain actions. No one is blamed for not knowing these actions straight away and these can be learnt gradually.
